With Luma Health’s Outbound Referral tool, you can keep patients and rendering providers easily updated. It allows you to automate the process of contacting patients who you have referred to another clinic, and make sure they are getting the care they need.
Enter the outbound referral in Luma to immediately begin outreach to the patient and rendering provider. This article walks you through how to add a new outbound referral into our system: Adding a New Outbound Referral
With a valid fax number, you can automatically send the rendering provider a fax to let them know you are referring someone to their practice. Here is an article that shows you how to enable this setting: What types of notifications are available for my rendering providers? (Outbound Referrals)
From there, you can automate outreach to patients to let them know you’ve referred them to another provider. To look at and edit your message templates, take a look at your referral templates in System Templates, and scroll down to the Outbound Referral templates.

After the first text is sent, you can schedule a text cadence to check in with your patients and see if they’ve been scheduled with the rendering provider. Luma has it auto-set to 2 follow-up texts over the span of 15 days from when the outbound referral was input into Luma, but you can edit this at any time by going to Settings > Feature Controls > Referrals > scrolling down to Outbound Referrals.
